It is a rotary positive displacement compressor in which water or other liquid acts as a piston to compress gas and then discharge the gas.
An air compressor is a device used to compress gas. The air compressor is similar in structure to the water pump. Most air compressors are of the reciprocating piston type, with rotating blades or rotating screws. Centrifugal compressors are very large applications.
