Types of Check Valve

Ball check valves
Ball check valves are known to be simple and cost-effective. Their compact design and the fact that they have no external parts make them both affordable and highly reliable. However, they do not have an open/close indicator, which might be a drawback in certain applications.

Swing check valves
Swing check valves are the most common type of check valves. They are inexpensive and rely entirely on flow and pressure to operate, requiring no external power or control. Swing check valves are available with open/close indicators and can be equipped with lever and weight or lever and spring for visual monitoring or with devices enabling digital feedback.

Tilting disc check valves
Tilting disc check valves resemble eccentric butterfly valves. The disc is mounted on a shaft positioned eccentrically from the horisontal and vertical body centerline.

Nozzle check valves
Nozzle check valves are designed with the disc connected to a central stem, moving along the horizontal axis. A spring is positioned between the disc and the diffuser sleeve.

Types of Pressure Reducing Valve

Direct Acting Pressure Reducing Valve
Our Direct Acting Pressure Reducing Valves are excellent for small loads type applications. They are constructed in a compact size and are easy to install.

Pilot Operated Pressure Reducing Valve
Pilot-Operated Pressure Reducing Valves are commonly used for larger loads of applications. They are larger in size and costly. It uses a pilot valve to load a diaphragm that increases the force.

Check valve applications

Protect drinking water from contamination by backflow resulting from gravity, back siphonage or backpressure (e.g. Hose connected kitchen spray or shower hand spray).

Protect sensitive equipment against possible damage or contamination resulting from a reversal of flow direction (e.g. water meter, pump or filter).

Hold water in a system or pipe after the flow has been turned off to prevent drainage or facilitate restart (e.g. pumping systems).

Prevent crossover flow in systems with unequal line pressures (e.g. cold and hot water inlets in thermostatic mixers).

Reduce the risk of backflow or leakage in case of valve failure (e.g. solenoid valve at the inlet of an appliance).

Allow complex systems to function properly by ensuring unidirectional flow (e.g. multi-zone heating system or booster pumps).

Applications of Pressure Reducing Valve

减压阀

Air and Gas service
Pneumatic control systems, control valves, compressed air systems, and power tools for industrial gas systems and distribution systems use direct-acting and pilot-operated pressure-reducing valves for air and gas services.

Water services
Pressure-reducing water control valves used for fire protection systems. Direct-acting pressure-reducing valves are generally preferred for this type of application. Due to high downstream pressure, system maintenance becomes burdensome.

Steam service
Mainly Pressure-reducing valves are used in steam applications including direct-acting steam applications, steam engines, and turbines.

FAQ

Q: How do you size a pressure reducing valve?

A: To size the PRV correctly, you need to find the technical data sheet from your preferred manufacturer and find a table that looks similar to below. You can then plot the peak flow rate on the graph and find the corresponding PRV size. As a rule of thumb, you want to be within the 1-2 m/sec zone on the chart.

Q: What are the two types of pressure reducing valves?

A: There are two types of water pressure reducing valves-- direct acting and pilot operated-- which use globe or angle style bodies.

Q: Where should a pressure reducing valve be installed?

A: Water pressure reducing valves are commonly installed at the meter in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Q: What is the standard for a check valve?

A: API 594 is an industry-standard for check valves with widespread application, especially in the petrochemical and oil & gas industries. The standard ensures that the design, manufacture, testing, and inspection of these valves meet requirements for safety, reliability, and performance.

Q: What are the rules for check valves?

A: To reliably prevent back flow and reduce water hammer, it's best to install check valves just after the pump discharge, keeping the five diameter rule in mind when doing so. Avoid installing immediately after elbows, as these can create severe turbulence and, in turn, valve chatter, instability, and eventual failure.
